Alex Brat is a senior HR and LR leader with over 30 years experience in large, complex, multi-stakeholder organizations spanning higher education, management consulting, and manufacturing. His areas of expertise include labour and employee relations, collective bargaining, strategy & planning, change management, organizational effectiveness, leadership development, and training.
Alex currently holds the position of Assistant Vice President, Labour Relations at York University. Prior to joining York, Alex served as Senior Executive Director, Labour Relations at the University of Toronto for nearly 16 years. In addition to leading Labour Relations, he also taught graduate and undergraduate courses at UofT on HR Strategy & Planning, Labour Relations, Labour Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Training & Development. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers in HR and LR across both public and private sectors.
Prior to UofT, Alex held senior HR and LR leadership roles in management consulting and within the aerospace and automotive sectors, including at Capgemini, Bombardier Aerospace, Ford Motor Company, and ThyssenKrupp. He is known for his strategic, inclusive and collaborative approach to leadership, as well as for achieving agreements within mandates and without disputes or disruptions.
Alex holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, as well as a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
